Freedom of the Press
"Freedom of the Press, is a series of paintings that explores the current state of the press and TV media of which the public at large relies on for its information about the world and its subsequent current events... unfortunately all major media outlets are owned and operated by large corporations which have their own personal and political agendas, which obscure and under represent the facts, for their own benefit... because of this the public by no fault of their own gets misinformed, and fed tainted facts: (NBC, CNBC, MSNBC: General Electric, GE), (FOX news: Rupert Murdoch), (ABC: Disney), (CNN: Time Warner), (CBS: Viacom). In these paintings the "scrambling" aesthetic is used as a metaphor for an unclear signal or message, gaps in the facts, and messages that have been messed with and altered. In this series I have chosen not only to depict specific current events (ie. Crisis in the Middle East, Swine Flu, War on Terror, etc.), but also the specific shows and the pundits that report and offer their own views about them (ie. Chris Matthews, Brian Williams, Fox News, etc.)"
